Face red after receiving hyaluronic acid injection
Generally, facial redness after receiving hyaluronic acid injections may be caused by non-disease factors such as normal postoperative reactions, or by disease-related factors such as allergic reactions to the anesthetic or to the hyaluronic acid injection itself. Patients can manage symptoms through lifestyle adjustments or by following medical advice regarding medication use.
I. Non-Disease Factors
After receiving hyaluronic acid injections, minor damage to the local skin or tissue may occur, resulting in small red spots or even bruising on the face. It is recommended that patients apply medical-grade masks stored in the refrigerator to help reduce swelling.
II. Disease Factors
1. Allergy to Anesthetic
If a patient is allergic to the topical anesthetic applied before the procedure, symptoms such as facial redness, warmth, itching, dryness, and peeling may occur. The patient should seek medical attention promptly and, under a doctor's guidance, use medications such as calamine lotion, mometasone furoate cream, halometasone cream, cetirizine hydrochloride capsules, or loratadine tablets. Alternatively, applying ice packs wrapped in a towel or using cold medical masks taken from the refrigerator may help soothe the skin.
2. Allergy to Hyaluronic Acid Injection
Allergic reactions may occur due to sensitive skin or incomplete absorption of the injected substances. Symptoms may persist despite taking antiallergic medications and may even include localized swelling or lumps. In such cases, patients should immediately stop further injections and seek prompt medical care. Under a doctor’s supervision, treatment may include topical applications such as mometasone furoate cream or hydrocortisone ointment, along with oral antihistamines like cetirizine tablets or loratadine tablets.
