Can I eat apricots during the second trimester of pregnancy? Will it affect the fetus?
Generally, consuming moderate amounts of apricots during the second trimester can promote fetal growth and development. However, excessive consumption of apricots may have adverse effects on both the pregnant woman and the fetus, and could even lead to embryonic death.
Apricots contain abundant nutrients such as flavonoids, vitamin B, and carotene. When consumed in moderation, they can provide sufficient nutrition for pregnant women, enhancing their resistance and immune function.
However, eating large quantities of apricots may cause excessive gastric acid secretion in the gastrointestinal tract, leading to severe stomach pain, nausea, and vomiting. This can result in electrolyte and fluid imbalances, potentially causing fetal demise or fetal malformations, thereby seriously harming both the mother and the developing fetus.
It is recommended that pregnant women avoid consuming large amounts of durian, mangosteen, and similar foods during pregnancy, as these can easily lead to excessive sugar intake. This increases the risk of gestational diabetes, gestational hypertension, severe lower-limb edema, proteinuria, and may even increase the likelihood of miscarriage.
