How often should newborns be bathed in summer?
Newborns can be bathed every 2–3 days during summer; frequent bathing is not recommended to avoid catching a cold.
Bathing newborns in summer helps remove surface dirt from the skin, maintains local hygiene, and promotes blood circulation. For newborns with active sweat glands, it's advisable to bathe them every 2–3 days. The water temperature should be maintained between 35–40°C, and the room temperature should be kept at 22–26°C. This prevents the baby from getting chilled due to low room or water temperature. Since newborns have weak immunity, exposure to cold may lead to symptoms such as colds. Also, ensure the bathwater isn't too hot, as this could cause skin burns.
During summer, newborns can be bathed about 3–4 times per week. If the baby sweats heavily, the frequency may be increased slightly. However, excessive bathing may damage the skin’s protective barrier. During bathing, pay attention to thoroughly cleaning areas prone to accumulating dirt, such as palms, finger crevices, earlobes, and other hidden areas.
