Why does my stomach feel uncomfortable when I sleep during the day?
Feeling uncomfortable in the stomach during daytime sleep may be caused by psychological factors, indigestion, chronic gastritis, or other reasons.
1. Psychological Factors
Discomfort in the stomach during daytime sleep might result from psychological factors, such as excessive stress from studying, work, or daily life, which can disrupt the nerves controlling the gastrointestinal tract and affect food absorption.
2. Indigestion
This could be due to consuming excessive cold, greasy, spicy, or irritating foods during the day, or overeating, which places a burden on the gastrointestinal system. Combined with a busy daytime schedule and lack of appropriate physical activity, intestinal motility slows down, leading to indigestion as food cannot be digested promptly. This may also be accompanied by symptoms such as belching, reduced appetite, and abdominal pain.
3. Chronic Gastritis
If one frequently consumes coarse or irritating foods, or smokes and drinks excessively, chronic gastritis may develop. In such cases, the patient's gastric mucosa is usually damaged, resulting in relatively weaker digestive function, which can lead to the aforementioned discomfort. Symptoms may also include a burning sensation and a feeling of fullness in the stomach.
