What causes soreness and bloating in the lower abdomen?
Lower abdominal discomfort or bloating may be caused by chronic colitis, pelvic inflammatory disease, or adnexitis. It is recommended to seek medical evaluation at a hospital to determine the specific underlying cause of these symptoms.
1. Chronic Colitis
Poor diet, or infections caused by bacteria, fungi, viruses, and other pathogenic microorganisms can trigger an inflammatory response in the intestines, leading to chronic colitis. This condition often results in symptoms such as lower abdominal bloating, abdominal pain, and diarrhea.
2. Pelvic Inflammatory Disease (PID)
Bacteria from the vagina may travel through the cervix into the uterus, fallopian tubes, ovaries, or surrounding organs, causing infection and resulting in pelvic inflammatory disease. This is often associated with improper vaginal douching or unhygienic sexual practices. Symptoms include lower abdominal bloating, a sensation of heaviness or pressure in the abdomen, and vaginal bleeding.
3. Adnexitis
When pathogens invade the female reproductive tract and infect the ovaries and fallopian tubes, adnexitis occurs. Patients may experience lower abdominal bloating, abnormal vaginal discharge, and in some cases, fever and headache.
