Introduction
A 13-day-old newborn's inability to sleep is primarily caused by unfavorable environmental conditions. Prolonged use of a diaper without changing, or using low-quality diapers, can cause physical discomfort in the newborn, leading to sleeplessness. Common colds or poor gastrointestinal digestion may result in repeated crying and difficulty sleeping. Additionally, calcium deficiency or lack of other essential nutrients, causing overall malnutrition, can also prevent a newborn from sleeping properly.

The main reasons why a 13-day-old newborn does not sleep well include poor environment, physical discomfort, and inadequate nutrition.

1. Poor Environment

Excessively high indoor temperature or a humid room can cause the newborn to sweat frequently, leading to irritability. Excessive surrounding noise or loud external sounds can also affect the newborn's sleep, making it difficult for them to fall asleep or causing them to wake up easily.

2. Physical Discomfort

Not changing diapers frequently enough, or using low-quality diapers, may lead to repeated friction against the baby's skin, causing redness, swelling, and itching in the buttocks area, which interferes with sleep. Additionally, conditions such as nasal congestion and coughing due to a cold, or poor gastrointestinal digestion accompanied by bloating and diarrhea, can make the newborn physically uncomfortable, resulting in persistent crying and difficulty sleeping.

3. Inadequate Nutrition

Failure to feed on demand may result in insufficient milk intake, causing the newborn to stay awake. Deficiencies in calcium or other essential nutrients can also disrupt sleep, leading to frequent sleeplessness or restless sleep, which in turn may negatively impact normal growth and development.
