What causes stomach pain after eating?
Eating may cause abdominal pain, which could be due to conditions such as acute gastroenteritis, peptic ulcer, or indigestion.
1. Acute Gastroenteritis
When acute gastroenteritis is caused by consuming excessive acidic foods or by bacterial infections such as Campylobacter or Salmonella, inflammation may irritate the gastrointestinal tract, leading to abdominal pain during eating. It is recommended to follow medical advice and use antidiarrheal medications such as bismuth subsalicylate or loperamide for treatment.
2. Peptic Ulcer
When Helicobacter pylori infection reduces the stomach's self-protective capacity and leads to peptic ulcer, excess gastric acid secretion may irritate the gastrointestinal tract, causing the aforementioned symptoms. Under a doctor's guidance, medications such as aluminum magnesium carbonate or teprenone can be used to protect the gastric mucosa.
3. Indigestion
When poor dietary habits or infections lead to indigestion, weakened gastrointestinal motility may prevent complete digestion of food, resulting in abdominal pain during eating. Following medical advice, prokinetic agents such as domperidone or metoclopramide may be used to enhance gastric motility.
