Feeling dizzy when lying with eyes closed
Generally, dizziness experienced when lying down with eyes closed may be caused by non-medical factors such as poor air circulation, or by medical conditions such as benign paroxysmal positional vertigo (BPPV) or transient cerebral ischemia. Treatment may include medications taken under medical supervision.
1. Poor Air Circulation
Dizziness when lying down with eyes closed may be related to inadequate ventilation in the room. If doors and windows are tightly closed, fresh air cannot circulate properly, leading to brain hypoxia and resulting in dizziness. Symptoms usually improve after opening windows to allow proper ventilation.
2. Benign Paroxysmal Positional Vertigo (BPPV)
If a person suffers from chronic insomnia or emotional instability, it may trigger BPPV. This condition damages the vestibular nerve function in the inner ear, causing symptoms such as dizziness when lying down with eyes closed, nausea, and vomiting. It is recommended to take medications such as betahistine mesylate tablets or flunarizine hydrochloride capsules under a doctor's guidance.
3. Transient Cerebral Ischemia
When lying down with eyes closed, blood flow in the body may slow down, leading to temporary cerebral ischemia and hypoxia. This may cause dizziness, along with symptoms such as blurred vision or sudden falls. Patients may take medications such as enteric-coated aspirin capsules or nimodipine tablets as directed by a physician.
Dizziness when lying down with eyes closed may also be caused by other factors such as colds or anemia. It is advisable to visit a hospital for evaluation and receive appropriate treatment under medical supervision.
