Introduction
In general, headaches upon waking may be caused by physiological factors such as lack of sleep, or pathological factors such as hypertension and cervical spondylosis. Symptoms can be relieved according to medical advice through medications, foot soaking, and other methods. Individuals experiencing morning headaches are advised to promptly visit a hospital for examinations such as brain MRI and X-ray to establish an accurate diagnosis and receive targeted treatment.

In general, headaches upon waking can be improved through self-rest, physical therapy, medication, and other approaches.

1. Self-rest

If one is overly fatigued or suffers from insomnia before sleep, it may lead to shortened sleep duration or reduced sleep quality, preventing the body and mind from fully resting. This could affect cerebral oxygen and blood supply, resulting in discomfort such as dizziness and headaches upon waking. Symptoms may be somewhat relieved after adequate rest. Patients are advised to maintain a balance between work and rest, and soaking feet in warm water before bedtime may help promote better sleep.

2. Physical therapy

If headache symptoms do not improve with rest, patients should consult a doctor to identify the underlying cause. Treatments may include acupuncture, massage, biofeedback combined with muscle relaxation training, meditation, psychotherapy, hyperbaric oxygen therapy, and attention to and management of headache triggers and lifestyle factors.

3. Medication

Clinically, headaches may be caused by conditions such as cerebral infarction, neuralgic headaches, cerebral hemorrhage, or infectious diseases of the nervous system. It is recommended to seek timely medical attention. After completing necessary diagnostic tests, patients should follow medical advice to use targeted medications. For example, if headaches are caused by increased intracranial pressure, medications such as furosemide, spironolactone, mannitol, or glycerol fructose may be used as prescribed. If headaches result from cerebral edema, inflammatory exudation, or infiltration, treatments may include mannitol, glycerol fructose, or tramadol. For various types of neuralgic headaches, medications such as acetaminophen, ibuprofen, Toutongning, Yangxue Qingnao Granules, Xuefu Zhuyu Oral Liquid, or Kutengding may be prescribed.

Patients experiencing headaches upon waking are advised to promptly visit a hospital for brain MRI, X-ray, or other examinations to establish an accurate diagnosis and receive appropriate treatment.
