How to use salicylic acid ointment for keratosis pilaris
Keratosis pilaris (commonly known as "chicken skin") is caused by follicular keratosis. Salicylic acid ointment helps soften the skin's keratin and can be appropriately applied to treat severe cases of follicular keratosis. Instructions for using salicylic acid ointment:

1. Clean the skin with water, then dry thoroughly with a towel to ensure the area is clean and dry.
2. Wear gloves or finger cots, and use the fingertip to take an appropriate amount of ointment and place it at the center of the affected area.
3. Gently spread the ointment in circular motions, either clockwise or counterclockwise, massaging the area lightly to promote drug absorption until the ointment disappears.
Within 3–5 minutes after application, patients may feel a mild warmth or slight burning sensation at the application site—this is a normal reaction. If irritation persists or discomfort continues after 10 days of use, discontinue the medication and consult your physician. Prolonged long-term use of salicylic acid ointment should be avoided to prevent adverse reactions.
