How long does it take to recover from mild pesticide poisoning?
Mild poisoning from pesticides usually recovers within about 1 to 3 days.
If pesticide ingestion causes poisoning but the dose is small and symptoms are mild, appropriate treatment can clear the toxins from the body in approximately 1 to 3 days. When mild pesticide poisoning occurs, prompt intervention is essential to remove residual pesticide from the body. For example, gastric lavage or induced vomiting can be performed using 1% or 2% sodium bicarbonate solution or normal saline to help eliminate toxins. Under medical guidance, magnesium sulfate solution may be administered as a laxative to further promote toxin excretion. If symptoms such as seizures or restlessness occur, medications like diazepam tablets can be taken to provide sedation. Additionally, individuals with poor metabolic function may require a longer recovery period—around 5 to 7 days or even longer—to fully recover.
Once pesticide poisoning is suspected, immediate action should be taken regardless of the amount ingested, to prevent prolonged retention of toxins in the body and serious adverse effects on health.
