What Should Parents Do When Their Child Becomes Defiant?
Rebellion is a natural and normal manifestation of a child’s gradual maturation. Parents should provide appropriate guidance rather than becoming overly anxious.

During the rebellious phase, children typically exhibit strong self-awareness and desire independence from excessive parental care or interference. At this stage, they require greater respect and validation from their parents. When children display rebellious behavior, avoid harsh criticism or physical punishment.
Parents are advised to communicate frequently with their children. At this time, parents should adopt the role of a friend—engaging in equal, respectful dialogue to understand their child’s thoughts and feelings. Authoritarian control methods used during early childhood are no longer appropriate.

Frequently acknowledge and encourage your child. As adolescents mature, their need for respect and recognition intensifies. Any disrespectful or dismissive behavior on the part of parents may exacerbate rebellious tendencies.
