How can cerumen impaction be completely cured?
Impacted cerumen usually cannot be permanently cured.
Impacted cerumen generally refers to secretions in the external auditory canal. When excessive cerumen accumulates and forms a large mass, it may block the ear canal and affect hearing. In such cases, patients can directly remove the blockage using tweezers or a cerumen hook. If necessary, they can go to a hospital for irrigation or suction removal of the impacted cerumen. Impacted cerumen typically cannot be permanently eliminated because, during normal human metabolism, cerumen is continuously produced by the ceruminous glands and naturally shed over time—an ordinary physiological process. The most effective approach is regular removal of accumulated cerumen.
To reduce the occurrence of cerumen buildup, individuals should clean their ear canals promptly in daily life and avoid frequently using fingers or unclean tools to dig into the ears, which may cause ear canal injury. Additionally, after swimming or bathing, it's important to clean the ear canal promptly to prevent moisture retention and subsequent cerumen deterioration.
