Introduction
Fever usually refers to elevated body temperature. A body temperature of 36.8°C in a 12-year-old is not considered fever. The normal axillary temperature range is 36°C to 37.2°C. Therefore, a body temperature of 36.8°C in a 12-year-old falls within the normal range and is considered normal, not indicative of fever. Clinically, a body temperature above 37.3°C is defined as fever.

Fever usually refers to an elevated body temperature. A body temperature of 36.8°C in a 12-year-old is not considered fever.

In clinical practice, axillary (underarm) temperature is commonly measured. The normal axillary temperature range is 36°C to 37.2°C. Therefore, a temperature of 36.8°C in a 12-year-old falls within the normal range and is not indicative of fever. Clinically, a body temperature above 37.3°C is considered fever: low-grade fever is defined as a temperature between 37.3°C and 38°C; moderate fever between 38.1°C and 39°C; high fever between 39.1°C and 41°C; and hyperpyrexia refers to a temperature exceeding 41°C.

If a 12-year-old's temperature exceeds 37.3°C but does not reach 38.5°C, physical cooling methods should be used, such as wiping the palms, soles, and armpits with a wet towel. If the temperature exceeds 38.5°C, antipyretic medications such as ibuprofen suspension or acetaminophen suspension drops may be taken as directed by a physician.
