Is it dangerous to have a blood pressure of 220 systolic and 140 diastolic without dizziness?
Blood pressure with a systolic reading of 220 mmHg and diastolic reading of 140 mmHg falls into stage 3 hypertension. Even in the absence of symptoms such as dizziness, this condition is considered quite serious.
Stage 3 hypertension is the most severe form of high blood pressure. Without timely treatment and control, it can lead to damage in target organs such as the heart, brain, kidneys, and blood vessels. In severe cases, it may trigger acute cardiovascular and cerebrovascular events that threaten life. When blood pressure exceeds 180/110 mmHg, especially when systolic pressure rises above 200 mmHg, complications such as cerebral hemorrhage, subarachnoid hemorrhage, ischemic stroke, or acute left heart failure may occur.
It is recommended that patients be hospitalized for treatment. A cranial CT scan should be performed to rule out conditions such as cerebral hemorrhage and aortic dissection. Blood pressure should be reduced within a safe timeframe to alleviate the condition. Under medical supervision, antihypertensive medications such as sodium nitroprusside, nitroglycerin, or urapidil may be administered to stabilize blood pressure.
In addition, hypertensive patients must strictly limit their daily salt intake to prevent further elevation of blood pressure.
