What to do if a biscuit is stuck in the throat
If a biscuit is stuck in the throat, it can usually be relieved by drinking water, inducing vomiting, or performing the Heimlich maneuver.
1. Drinking water: If a biscuit is stuck in the throat, drink some warm water to soften the biscuit and lubricate the esophagus, making it easier to swallow. Additionally, while drinking water, slightly squat down and perform swallowing motions, which may help the biscuit pass on its own.
2. Inducing vomiting: If the biscuit is lodged in the esophagus or in a relatively shallow part of the throat, you can use your finger to stimulate the back of the throat to induce vomiting and expel the stuck biscuit.
3. Heimlich maneuver: If the biscuit is hard and obstructs normal breathing, causing choking or preventing the person from speaking fully, perform the Heimlich maneuver. Place the lower part of the sternum against the edge of a table or chair back, then apply several quick, forceful upward and backward thrusts to dislodge the biscuit from the throat.
If drinking water, inducing vomiting, or the Heimlich maneuver fail to relieve the blockage, seek immediate medical help by calling emergency services. A healthcare professional may need to use a laryngoscope to safely remove the biscuit stuck in the throat.
