What causes chest pain involving the heart and lungs?
There are many possible causes of cardiopulmonary pain, such as pleurisy, pneumothorax, and pneumonia. It is important to seek timely medical evaluation and accurate diagnosis at a hospital.
1. Pleurisy: Pleurisy refers to an inflammatory condition occurring in the pleural cavity and can be seen in cases of tuberculous pleurisy, fungal pleurisy, or malignant pleurisy. It may cause symptoms such as fever, chest pain, chest tightness, and difficulty breathing. When the lungs are involved, patients may experience lung pain and coughing. For pleurisy caused by bacterial infection, antibiotics should be taken under medical guidance, such as amoxicillin capsules or metronidazole tablets. For tuberculous pleurisy, anti-tuberculosis medications should be used as directed by a physician, such as rifampicin tablets or isoniazid tablets.
2. Pneumothorax: Pneumothorax occurs when the pleural cavity is damaged due to various factors, allowing air to enter and increase local pressure, leading to lung tissue injury. This results in symptoms such as cardiopulmonary pain, shortness of breath, and chest tightness. For stable closed pneumothorax, symptoms may be relieved through rest and high-concentration oxygen inhalation. If symptoms are significant, procedures such as thoracentesis (air aspiration) or closed thoracic drainage may be performed to remove excess air from the pleural cavity.
3. Pneumonia: Pneumonia refers to inflammation of the terminal airways, alveoli, and lung interstitium, usually caused by pathogenic microorganisms or physical and chemical factors. It typically presents with fever, chills, cough with sputum production, along with chest pain and difficulty breathing. Under medical supervision, antibacterial agents such as amoxicillin granules or cefazolin sodium for injection may be used. For viral pneumonia, antiviral medications such as ribavirin granules or acyclovir tablets may be prescribed according to medical advice.
In addition, conditions such as pulmonary tuberculosis and pericarditis can also cause cardiopulmonary pain. It is essential to seek prompt medical attention, complete relevant examinations, identify the underlying cause, and receive appropriate treatment under a doctor's guidance.
