The cardiac risks associated with domperidone tablets are relatively rare. However, in some individuals, certain components of the drug may inhibit potassium currents in ventricular myocardial cell membranes, potentially affecting the myocardium and increasing the risk of arrhythmias. It may also affect the heart's electrical system, leading to hazards such as atrial fibrillation and sudden cardiac death.
Cardiac adverse effects of domperidone tablets are relatively rare, but some individuals may experience harm such as arrhythmia, atrial fibrillation, or sudden cardiac death.
1. Arrhythmia: Overdosing on domperidone tablets may lead certain components of the drug to inhibit potassium currents in ventricular myocardial cell membranes, potentially affecting the myocardium and easily causing arrhythmias.
2. Atrial Fibrillation: In individuals with pre-existing heart disease or electrolyte imbalances, taking domperidone tablets may affect the heart's electrical system, disrupting the normal rhythm of atrial contractions and leading to atrial fibrillation.
3. Sudden Cardiac Death: A very small number of individuals with underlying heart conditions may experience sudden cardiac death after taking domperidone tablets.
As a prescription medication, domperidone tablets must be used strictly according to medical instructions. Occasionally reported side effects include dry mouth, insomnia, nervousness, diarrhea, and others. If symptoms do not improve after three days of treatment, medical attention should be sought promptly. The duration of use should not exceed one week.
