Introduction
It is normal to still experience pain on the second day after treatment for dry socket. Dry socket is a localized osteomyelitis occurring in the alveolar socket, typically developing 3 to 4 days after wisdom tooth extraction. Mild cases of dry socket often involve pain on the second day as well, although it is usually tolerable. Under a doctor's guidance, treatment may include oral administration of ibuprofen sustained-release capsules.

Dry socket is a localized osteomyelitis occurring in the dental alveolus, usually developing 3 to 4 days after wisdom tooth extraction. Mild cases of dry socket may still involve pain on the second day, though it is generally tolerable. Under a doctor's guidance, pain can be managed by taking ibuprofen sustained-release capsules orally. If severe pain occurs or there is a foul odor from the socket, immediate medical attention is necessary. The socket should be cleaned at the hospital and packed with iodoform gauze strips to promote granulation tissue growth and protect exposed bone membrane. Persistent pain indicates that infectious material within the wound has not been completely removed. It is recommended to visit an oral medicine department for local irrigation therapy. Under medical supervision, symptoms can be improved by irrigating the area with 3% hydrogen peroxide or normal saline. Concurrent use of medications such as norfloxacin capsules or moxifloxacin tablets may also be considered.

During treatment, it is advised to maintain a light diet, drink plenty of water, and pay close attention to oral hygiene. Mouth rinsing with chlorhexidine solution can help reinforce anti-inflammatory effects.
