Introduction
It is normal for a person's mouth to make slight clicking sounds when opening, because the maxilla and mandible in the oral cavity are not completely fused, allowing the mouth to open and close, move, and chew. When the upper and lower jaw bones move, the surrounding muscles, ligaments, and other tissues stretch, twist, and shift position, producing such sounds. Since the oral cavity is close to the eardrum, one can hear these sounds, which is considered a physiological phenomenon.

Under normal circumstances, it is common for a person to hear a slight clicking sound when opening the mouth, which is considered a normal physiological phenomenon.

A slight noise may occur when opening the mouth because the maxilla and mandible in the oral cavity are not completely fused, allowing movements such as opening and closing the mouth, shifting, and chewing. When the jaw bones move, the surrounding muscles, ligaments, and other tissues stretch, twist, or shift position, which can produce audible sounds. Since the oral cavity is close to the eardrum, individuals can easily hear these sounds generated during jaw movement. This is a normal physiological occurrence and generally does not require concern.

If a healthy individual experiences only a mild clicking sound when opening the mouth without any accompanying abnormal symptoms, no specific treatment is necessary—simple observation is sufficient. However, if the clicking is accompanied by pain, it may indicate muscle strain or joint dislocation. In such cases, prompt evaluation at a reputable orthopedic or dental clinic is recommended. Relevant examinations should be performed to determine the underlying cause, and appropriate treatment should be selected based on the findings.
