What are the side effects of injecting Xiyanping in children?
Xiyanping usually refers to Xiyanping injection. Side effects in children receiving Xiyanping injection are uncommon, though a small number of individuals may experience rash, fever, pain, palpitations, and other adverse reactions.
As a prescription traditional Chinese medicine, Xiyanping injection's main active ingredient is andrographolide. It is clinically used primarily for treating bronchitis, tonsillitis, bacterial dysentery, and similar conditions. Generally, children do not experience side effects after receiving Xiyanping injection. However, in rare cases, due to individual physiological differences, symptoms such as rash, vomiting, abdominal pain, fever, chills, palpitations, or convulsions may occur; these typically resolve spontaneously after discontinuation of the drug.
Xiyanping injection must be administered strictly according to medical instructions. Self-medication should be avoided to prevent discomfort in children. The medication is strictly contraindicated in children with known hypersensitivity to it. During administration, the infusion rate must be carefully controlled to prevent intolerance symptoms such as dizziness or chest tightness in children.
