Introduction
The main purpose of oral and nasal suctioning is to remove viscous secretions from the respiratory tract, maintain airway patency, restore normal breathing function, improve pulmonary ventilation, and enhance lung function. It is important to follow aseptic techniques, perform procedures gently, avoid reusing suction catheters, and control the duration of suctioning. After the procedure, closely monitor the patient's vital signs.

The primary purpose of oronasal suctioning is to maintain airway patency and improve lung function. It is important to follow aseptic techniques, perform procedures gently, and avoid reusing suction catheters.

1. Purpose: Using tools to suction secretions through the mouth or nose removes viscous fluids from the respiratory tract, helping to keep the airway open and restoring normal breathing function. This improves airflow in the lungs, enhances pulmonary function, and alleviates hypoxia. Removing secretions also reduces the risk of complications, and the collected sputum can be sent for laboratory testing to assess the patient's condition.

2. Precautions: Oronasal suction catheters are single-use only and must not be reused. When operating the suction device, movements should be gentle to avoid damaging mucous membranes or blood vessels. The procedure must be performed under sterile conditions. The patient should be positioned supine or semi-recumbent, and suctioning time should be carefully controlled. After the procedure, closely monitor the patient’s vital signs.

If a patient is not suitable for oronasal suctioning, gentle back tapping may be used instead to help promote sputum clearance.
