Introduction
Ear pain from wearing headphones may be caused by an improper fit, leading to prolonged pressure on the ear canal and resulting in local ischemia. Additionally, inflammation of the ear canal can also cause such symptoms. Furthermore, if the middle ear becomes infected by pathogens, causing otitis media, ear pain when wearing headphones may also occur. If symptoms persist, it is recommended to seek medical attention promptly for diagnosis and treatment.

Ear pain after wearing headphones may be related to factors such as improperly sized headphones, external auditory canal inflammation, or otitis media.

  1. Improperly sized headphones: If using in-ear headphones that are too large or do not fit properly, prolonged pressure on the ear canal can compress the skin and even cartilage of the outer ear. Extended periods of reduced blood flow to the ear area may result in ear pain. It is recommended to choose headphones that fit properly to alleviate symptoms.

  2. External auditory canal inflammation: The skin of the external auditory canal is tightly connected to surrounding tissues and richly innervated. When inflammation occurs in the ear canal, the above symptoms may appear. It is advised to avoid wearing headphones during active inflammation and to follow medical guidance in taking anti-inflammatory medications such as Cefixime Dispersible Tablets or Levofloxacin Capsules to control the condition.

  3. Otitis media: When the middle ear becomes infected and develops otitis media, wearing headphones may also cause ear pain. Under a doctor's supervision, treatment with medications such as Ofloxacin Ear Drops or Chloramphenicol Ear Drops may help relieve symptoms. Avoid wearing headphones during this period.

Additionally, listening at excessively high volumes for long durations or overly tight earbud pressure may damage the eardrum or disrupt pressure regulation in the middle ear, leading to similar issues. It is recommended to limit the duration of headphone use to help prevent and improve symptoms.
