Introduction
Redness in the eyes upon waking can occur when there is ocular inflammation. Staying up late to use mobile phones, watch television, or work may lead to eye fatigue, insufficient rest, or incomplete eyelid closure during sleep, causing part of the eyeball to be exposed to air. This exposure can result in exposure keratitis, which also leads to redness in the eyes upon waking.

Redness in the eyes upon waking may be caused by factors such as eye inflammation, insufficient rest, or incomplete eyelid closure.

1. Eye Inflammation

Inflammatory conditions of the eye can lead to redness upon waking, commonly seen in diseases like conjunctivitis and keratitis. These are often accompanied by symptoms such as eye swelling, pain, and increased discharge. Treatment may include antibiotic eye drops such as chloramphenicol eye drops, levofloxacin eye drops, or tobramycin eye drops, used under medical supervision.

2. Insufficient Rest

Staying up late to use mobile phones, watch TV, or work can cause eye fatigue and inadequate rest, resulting in red eyes upon waking. Correcting poor sleep habits and ensuring sufficient sleep usually helps alleviate the redness.

3. Incomplete Eyelid Closure

Some individuals have incomplete eyelid closure during sleep, causing part of the eyeball to be exposed to air, which may lead to exposure keratitis and result in eye redness upon waking. Artificial tears, used under a doctor's guidance, can help relieve symptoms; in severe cases, surgical intervention may be necessary.

In addition, people with dry eye syndrome may also experience eye redness upon waking. It is advisable to visit an ophthalmologist promptly for evaluation and targeted treatment based on the underlying cause.
