How to relieve blocked breast ducts
Breast duct blockage is generally caused by accumulated milk that cannot be properly drained. Methods such as using a breast pump, massage, or acupuncture can help remove the blockage. Taking the breast pump as an example, the specific steps are as follows:
1. Wash the breasts with warm water, then apply a warm towel compress to the breasts to help dilate the milk ducts and prepare for smooth milk expression.
2. Massage the breasts in small circular motions, moving from the outer areas toward the nipple. Gently knead the nipple with your thumb and index finger.
3. Place the breast shield over one breast, centering it over the nipple. Hold the shield in place with one hand while holding the milk bottle with the same hand, and use the other hand to turn on the machine.
4. The duration of pumping should be limited to 8–20 minutes and should not exceed 20 minutes.
5. After pumping, clean the breast pump thoroughly and apply a warm towel compress again to prevent breast swelling.
