How is an electromyography performed?
Electromyography (EMG) is a diagnostic procedure used to evaluate the health of muscles and the nerve cells that control them. The specific procedure is as follows:
1. First, perform a neurological examination on the patient to determine the areas requiring EMG testing.
2. Next, routinely disinfect the corresponding skin surface areas to be examined.
3. Then, insert a sterilized needle electrode into the muscle and observe the muscle's bioelectrical activity during needle insertion, at rest, and during voluntary muscle contraction.
4. Finally, upon completion of the examination, assist the patient in adjusting their clothing.
Precautions:
On the day before the EMG test, wash your hair and take a bath to keep the skin clean and dry. Wear loose-fitting clothing, avoid being overly hungry or full, and stay relaxed to prevent anxiety.
