How to reduce swelling from muscle swelling
Muscle swelling should be managed according to the severity of the local injury, with appropriate measures such as heat application, massage, and acupuncture. For example, applying heat 24 hours after cold therapy can help alleviate symptoms. The specific procedures are as follows:
1. Immediately after muscle swelling occurs, apply ice packs or use a bottle of mineral water wrapped in a towel for local cold compression.
2. Apply heat 24 hours after cold therapy: take a clean towel, soak it in hot water at 40–50°C, wring out the excess water, and place it over the swollen area to promote blood circulation.
3. In severe cases, under medical supervision, intravenous administration of dehydrating agents such as dexamethasone or hydrochlorothiazide may be used to reduce local swelling, inflammation, and edema. However, it is generally recommended that injections of medications such as dexamethasone, hydrochlorothiazide, or furosemide should not exceed three days.
