Introduction

Dilation and curettage (D&C) is a procedure to remove residual tissue and blood clots from the uterus. The specific steps are as follows:
1. First, the patient needs to clean the external genitalia and vagina, then dry thoroughly with a towel to keep the area clean and dry.
2. The doctor lays sterile drapes on the operating table and sterilizes all surgical instruments.
3. The patient lies on the examination table in the lithotomy position, with legs spread apart to expose the genital area.
4. The doctor inserts a speculum into the vagina to fully expose the cervix. A cervical clamp is used to grasp the cervix. A probe is inserted into the uterine cavity to measure its depth. Gradual dilation of the cervix is performed using dilators, typically size 6 or 7. Once adequately dilated, a curette is inserted into the uterine cavity to scrape the walls of the endometrium.
5. Finally, the scraped uterine tissue is sent for pathological examination. The vagina is disinfected, and the speculum is removed.
