Introduction
In general, coughing with yellow sputum may be caused by pneumonia. However, since cough and yellow sputum are common symptoms, they could also result from other diseases. Pneumonia is a relatively common lung disease that may be caused by factors such as Gram-negative bacillary infection, fungi, anaerobic bacteria, mixed infections, or an increase in drug-resistant bacteria.

Pneumonia is a relatively common lung disease that may be caused by infections such as Gram-negative bacilli, fungi, anaerobic bacteria, mixed infections, or an increasing prevalence of drug-resistant bacteria.

Generally, when patients experience coughing and yellow phlegm, pneumonia should be considered, as typical symptoms of pneumonia include fever, cough, sputum production, hemoptysis (coughing up blood), chest tightness, chest pain, and shortness of breath. If a patient has had a prolonged cough accompanied by bacterial infection, the phlegm may become darker in color, leading to yellow sputum. It is recommended that patients take antibiotic medications such as ampicillin capsules, cefuroxime axetil tablets, or nitrofurantoin tablets under medical supervision.

However, coughing and producing yellow phlegm are common symptoms that may also be caused by other conditions such as acute pharyngitis or bronchitis. When inflammation in the pharynx spreads to the larynx, it can locally irritate the respiratory tract, resulting in coughing and yellow phlegm. This may also be accompanied by symptoms such as throat itching or a burning sensation. Patients can take medications like azithromycin tablets or Lanqin oral liquid as directed by a physician to relieve discomfort. Bronchitis is another common respiratory infection, with hallmark symptoms being cough and yellow sputum. In the early stages, patients may produce little phlegm, but as the condition worsens, the amount increases and becomes thicker. Patients may take ambroxol hydrochloride tablets, amoxicillin capsules, or similar medications under medical guidance to alleviate symptoms.
