Introduction
"COVID-19" generally refers to infection with the novel coronavirus. Eye pain during a COVID-19 infection may be caused by eye strain, viral infection, conjunctivitis, or other reasons. When patients infected with the novel coronavirus spend prolonged periods looking at electronic devices such as smartphones or computers, excessive eye use can lead to dryness and pain in the eyes, resulting in discomfort or pain in the eyeball.

"New crown" generally refers to novel coronavirus infection. Eye pain after contracting the virus may be caused by eye strain, viral infection, or conjunctivitis. It is recommended to go to the hospital as early as possible for relevant examinations and receive active treatment.

1. Eye strain

When patients spend prolonged periods viewing electronic devices such as smartphones or computers during a novel coronavirus infection, excessive eye use can lead to dryness and pain, resulting in eye discomfort. During this period, resting the eyes by closing them, reducing screen time, and applying warm compresses with a heated towel to the eyes can help alleviate symptoms.

2. Viral infection

Most patients infected with the novel coronavirus develop fever. When body temperature becomes too high, increased fluid loss occurs, or nasal congestion may block the nasolacrimal duct, irritating the eyes. This may cause dryness and pain in the eyes. Prompt cooling measures should be taken. If body temperature is below 38.5℃, physical methods such as taking a warm bath or alcohol wipes can help reduce fever. If body temperature exceeds 38.5℃, medication under a doctor's guidance is recommended. Additionally, drinking plenty of water helps replenish fluids lost due to fever.

3. Conjunctivitis

After being infected with the novel coronavirus, the virus may invade the mucous membranes of the eyes, causing inflammation. Under inflammatory stimulation, eye pain may occur. Treatment may include antiviral eye drops or ointments such as Acyclovir eye drops, Ganciclovir eye ointment, or Levofloxacin eye drops. During this period, minimize the use of electronic devices to allow the eyes adequate rest. Drinking sufficient water also promotes metabolism and helps eliminate the virus from the body more quickly.
