Why does intercourse cause bleeding before and after menstruation?
It is normal to experience bleeding after intercourse around the time of menstruation, but it could also be caused by conditions such as chronic cervicitis or cervical cancer. Patients should promptly visit a hospital for further examination and receive treatment based on the underlying cause.
1. Normal Phenomenon
If intercourse involves improper positioning or excessive force, it may cause injury to the female vagina, resulting in bleeding around the menstrual period. This is generally considered normal, with minimal bleeding that does not require special treatment. Maintaining local hygiene and getting adequate rest are usually sufficient.
2. Chronic Cervicitis
If a woman has local inflammation in the cervix, the condition of local congestion may worsen before menstruation. Intercourse at this time can cause capillaries to rupture, leading to bleeding. It is recommended that patients take medications such as doxycycline hydrochloride tablets, azithromycin tablets, or levofloxacin tablets under medical guidance.
3. Cervical Cancer
In women with cervical cancer, blood vessels at the tumor site are often abundant. As intercourse is a relatively strenuous activity, excessive force during the process may easily cause capillary rupture and result in vaginal bleeding. Patients may, under medical supervision, use drugs such as cisplatin injection or carboplatin injection to alleviate discomfort, or undergo surgical procedures such as total hysterectomy or cervical conization.
