How long after leaving the palace will menstruation start?
After a dilation and curettage (D&C) procedure, menstruation typically resumes about one month following the surgery.
A D&C removes the functional layer of the endometrium. Following the procedure, the endometrium begins to repair itself as the basal layer regenerates and heals the denuded surface, eventually re-forming a new functional layer. Once ovarian ovulation function recovers, menstrual bleeding can occur. For most women, ovarian ovulation resumes approximately 22 days after surgery, and menstruation returns around 36–40 days post-operation—about one month. However, in some cases, menstruation may be slightly delayed, occurring between 40 and 50 days after the procedure. After a D&C, patients should get adequate rest, avoid heavy physical labor, and maintain good external genital hygiene. Showering is recommended instead of tub bathing, and sexual intercourse and tub baths should be avoided for one month. It's also important to boost immunity and practice contraception.
About one month after the D&C procedure, the endometrium should have sufficiently thickened to allow menstrual bleeding. However, in rare cases, if the D&C caused significant damage to the endometrium, poor endometrial regeneration may occur, leading to amenorrhea or absent periods. Therefore, regular follow-up examinations are essential after surgery. Any abnormalities should be evaluated and treated promptly.
