Is Mifepristone tablet a hormonal medication?
Mifepristone is not a hormonal drug, but rather a steroid-based antiprogestational agent. It is an oral abortifacient used not only for early pregnancy termination, menstrual induction, and intrauterine fetal death induction, but also in gynecological procedures such as insertion and removal of intrauterine devices, endometrial sampling, laser separation for cervical canal developmental abnormalities, and cervical dilation and curettage.
Currently, in clinical practice, mifepristone is commonly combined with misoprostol tablets to terminate pregnancies within 49 days of gestation. This combination yields highly satisfactory results and is widely recognized both domestically and internationally as a safe and effective medical approach for pregnancy termination. Mifepristone tablets are generally used in conjunction with misoprostol to enhance the effectiveness of abortion.
Gastrointestinal reactions are among the more common adverse effects of mifepristone. During treatment, some women may experience symptoms such as nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, and diarrhea, often accompanied by mild to moderate fever.
