What is double Babinski sign?
Bilateral Babinski sign generally refers to a positive Babinski sign on both sides and is one of the most important neurological signs, indicating organic disease in both cerebral hemispheres or transverse lesions in the spinal cord. It is recommended to undergo brain CT or MRI examinations and actively cooperate with treatment. In advanced stages, severe brain damage may be irreversible; therefore, early intervention is strongly advised.
Bilateral Babinski sign occurs due to damage at any site within the primary motor cortex of the cerebral cortex or along the descending corticospinal tracts. It can also appear in conditions such as coma, deep sleep, heavy anesthesia, and following generalized tonic-clonic seizures.
Patients with bilateral Babinski sign should be treated according to standard protocols for cerebrovascular diseases. In cases of cerebral infarction, antiplatelet agents and plaque-stabilizing medications are recommended, along with strict control of blood pressure, glucose, and lipid levels. For cerebral hemorrhage, treatments may include dehydration therapy to reduce intracranial pressure, free radical scavengers, and surgical intervention when necessary. In cases of brain tumors, prompt surgical removal is required.
