Introduction
The enlargement of the Adam's apple commonly occurs during puberty, especially in males. Due to increased secretion of male hormones during development, the Adam's apple typically grows larger and more prominent, which is considered normal. However, if significant enlargement of the Adam's apple occurs in adulthood, it is usually abnormal and may be caused by new growths or tumors in the larynx. In such cases, timely medical evaluation using imaging tests such as CT scan or laryngoscopy is necessary to determine the underlying cause.

Whether a prominent Adam's apple is normal depends on the individual's age.

1. Normal

If the prominence of the Adam's apple occurs during puberty, especially in males, it is typically a normal physiological phenomenon. This is due to increased secretion of androgens during development, which causes the larynx to enlarge and become more noticeable.

2. Abnormal

If an enlarged Adam's apple appears after adulthood, it is usually abnormal. It may be caused by new growths or tumors in the larynx, and medical evaluation with imaging such as CT scan or laryngoscopy is recommended to determine the cause.

In addition, thyroid tumors may also lead to an enlarged Adam's apple. It is advisable to seek timely medical examination and receive appropriate treatment accordingly.
