What are some quick ways to relieve itching from heat rash?
Prickly heat (miliaria) is a common superficial inflammatory skin condition occurring in summer or hot environments. The skin lesions typically present as small blisters, papules, or papulovesicles, often accompanied by sensations of burning and itching. In general, prickly heat can be effectively relieved quickly through general management measures and medication.
1. General Management
If a patient has mild prickly heat, general management is recommended to rapidly relieve itching. The patient should bathe with lukewarm water, keep the skin dry and cool, change clothes frequently, and avoid staying in hot, humid environments. Wearing loose, breathable cotton clothing is advisable. Indoor areas should be well-ventilated and kept cool; regularly opening windows for ventilation is recommended. Care should be taken to protect affected areas and avoid scratching.
2. Medication
If symptoms are more severe and general measures prove ineffective, medical treatment may be used to quickly alleviate itching. Patients should use medications such as calamine lotion or talcum powder under medical guidance. Oral antihistamines or corticosteroids, including loratadine tablets, cetirizine hydrochloride tablets, or triamcinolone tablets, may also be taken as prescribed by a physician.
