The correct method of using moxibustion navel patches
Warming herbal navel patches are convenient to use. Before application, clean the skin around the navel, apply the temperature-regulating patch over the acupoint, then place the herbal navel patch over the temperature-regulating patch. The herbal navel patch can maintain warmth for approximately 8 hours; care should be taken to control the temperature and avoid burns.
The area targeted by the herbal navel patch is the navel, known in traditional Chinese medicine as the Shenque (CV8) acupoint. The main medicinal ingredients in the patch are mugwort floss (Ai Rong), Sichuan pepper (Hua Jiao), and longan flesh (Gui Yuan Rou). Mugwort floss is made by crushing dried mugwort leaves and removing impurities to produce a fine downy material. It has a bitter, pungent taste and warm nature, entering the liver, spleen, and kidney meridians, and functions to warm the meridians and dispel cold. Sichuan pepper, commonly used as a kitchen spice and also a medicinal herb, is hot in nature and pungent in taste, entering the spleen, stomach, and kidney meridians, and helps warm the middle burner and relieve pain. Longan flesh, also known as dragon eye meat, is warm in nature and sweet in taste, entering the heart and spleen meridians, and nourishes and activates the blood.
The herbs in the navel patch have effects of warming the meridians, dispelling cold, and warming the uterus. Women who often suffer from cold hands and feet or abdominal coldness and pain during menstruation may find relief through applying this patch, thus achieving a health-preserving effect. Individuals with obesity, sensitivity to cold, or those who experience abdominal pain after consuming cold foods—symptoms typically associated with a cold-damp constitution due to poor spleen and stomach transformation and transportation—can also benefit from using the herbal navel patch for wellness support.
