What causes pain when pressing on the upper eye socket?
Pain upon pressing the upper orbital area may be caused by physiological factors or pathological conditions such as sinusitis or eye trauma.
I. Physiological Factors
This may result from frequent late-night habits, prolonged use of electronic devices like mobile phones and computers, excessive eye strain, and sustained tension in the muscles around the eyes.
II. Pathological Factors
1. Sinusitis
Sinusitis may develop due to long-term heavy smoking, allergic rhinitis, asthma, head and neck radiation therapy, or prolonged nasogastric tube placement. This inflammation can cause a sensation of pressure or pain in the eyebrow and orbital bone region.
2. Eye Trauma
Injury to the eye from sharp objects or blunt force impact may damage the local soft tissues around the eye socket, leading to pain.
In addition, orbital fractures could also be a possible cause. It is recommended to identify the underlying cause and follow medical advice for appropriate treatment.
