Introduction
Yellowish patches in the eyes may result from aging, slowed ocular metabolism, and decreased resistance, leading to local pigment deposition. They could also be caused by overactive meibomian glands, retention of glandular secretions, and consequent eyelid congestion and swelling. Additionally, impaired liver function, elevated bilirubin levels, disrupted normal liver metabolism, and jaundice may lead to yellowing of the eye's sclera.

Yellowish patches in the eyes may be caused by conditions such as conjunctival nevus, chalazion, or jaundice.

1. Conjunctival Nevus

This may occur due to local pigment deposition resulting from slowed ocular metabolism and decreased resistance associated with aging.

2. Chalazion

This may develop during growth and development stages when meibomian glands are highly active. Retention of meibomian gland secretions, prolonged use of electronic devices, or underlying chronic conjunctivitis or dry eye syndrome can obstruct gland secretion. Chronic irritation of surrounding tissues leads to chalazion formation, with secretions accumulating in the eye area, causing eyelid congestion and swelling.

3. Jaundice

This may result from diseases such as hepatitis or autoimmune hemolytic anemia, which impair liver function. Elevated bilirubin levels and disrupted hepatic metabolism lead to jaundice, manifesting as yellowing of the sclera.

In addition, other causes such as trichiasis may also contribute. Patients are advised to identify the underlying cause and follow medical guidance for treatment.
