What causes small fatty granules to grow at the base of the eyelashes?
Fatty granules growing at the base of the eyelashes may be caused by physiological factors, or possibly by pathological factors such as conjunctivitis or hordeolum.
1. Physiological Factors
This may result from overactive sebaceous glands in the local area, or from habits such as frequent late nights, prolonged reading, or extended use of mobile phones and computers. Overuse of the eyes can lead to significant eye fatigue, poor local blood circulation, and accumulation of excess oil around hair follicles.
2. Pathological Factors
1) Conjunctivitis
Conjunctivitis may occur due to exposure to chemical substances, irritation from foreign bodies like sand or dust, or infection by bacteria or viruses. Inflammation of the conjunctiva causes redness, swelling, and irritation, which may disrupt the normal secretory function of glands near the base of the eyelashes, leading to lipid accumulation.
2) Hordeolum (Stye)
Hordeolum may develop from frequently rubbing the eyes with dirty hands, wearing contact lenses for extended periods, or bacterial infection of the eye.
In addition to the above causes, sebaceous cysts and other conditions may also contribute. It is recommended to seek timely medical evaluation to determine the underlying cause and receive appropriate treatment as directed by a healthcare professional.
