What causes pain under the right armpit?
The causes of pain in the right armpit may include trauma, mammary gland hyperplasia, or lymph node infection.
1. Trauma
Pain often results from accidentally straining the muscles under the right armpit during physical activity, or from external impact or compression to the armpit area, leading to local soft tissue contusion and causing pain in the right armpit.
2. Mammary Gland Hyperplasia
Elevated estrogen levels in the body may lead to mammary gland hyperplasia, resulting in a dull ache beneath the right armpit. This condition usually requires no specific treatment and only observation. If symptoms are particularly noticeable, medications such as Xiaoyao Pills or ibuprofen sustained-release capsules can be taken to relieve discomfort. Warm compresses, massage, and avoiding fatigue may also help.
3. Lymph Node Infection
When infections such as parotitis, tonsillitis, or sinusitis occur in the head and neck region, they may easily cause infection and swelling of the axillary lymph nodes, leading to pain.
In addition, shingles or metastasis from certain malignant diseases could also cause pain in the right armpit. To prevent such conditions, patients experiencing symptoms should seek timely medical evaluation at a hospital for accurate diagnosis and early intervention.
