Can people with gout eat pigeon meat and soup?
Gout patients can consume a small amount of pigeon meat, but it is not recommended to drink the soup.
Gout is caused by high levels of uric acid in the blood. When uric acid concentration becomes too high, the blood can no longer fully dissolve it, leading to the formation of uric acid crystals that deposit in the joints and cause pain. Gout patients should pay attention to the purine content in their diet. Pigeon meat contains moderate to high levels of purine, so it may be consumed in moderation. However, it is not advisable to drink soup made from pigeon, especially when simmered for a long time, as such soups contain large amounts of purines that could easily trigger gout attacks. Other cooking methods are preferable; boiling the meat in water is the best option, as this allows one to benefit from high-quality protein while reducing purine intake.
In addition to pigeon meat, gout patients can also choose white meats such as chicken and duck, which are relatively low in purines and thus suitable for consumption. It is generally recommended to limit meat intake and avoid drinking meat soups altogether.
