Quick tips for nasal turbinate hypertrophy and nasal congestion
Nasal turbinate hypertrophy causing nasal obstruction generally has no simple home remedies, but can be improved through medication, physical therapy, or surgical treatment.
1. Medication
If the condition is not severe and does not cause significant discomfort, medications such as budesonide nasal spray, mometasone furoate nasal spray, or fluticasone propionate nasal spray may be used under medical guidance to alleviate nasal congestion.
2. Physical Therapy
If the inferior or middle turbinates are significantly thickened and causing obstruction, physical therapies may be considered under medical supervision. Common methods include microwave therapy, cryotherapy, and low-temperature plasma radiofrequency ablation.
3. Surgical Treatment
If the mucosa is markedly thickened, especially at the lower edge or posterior end of the turbinates, and the above treatments are ineffective, surgical options such as partial resection of the inferior turbinate or partial resection of the middle turbinate may be chosen according to a physician's advice.
During treatment, it is important to stay warm and avoid colds, which could lead to chronic rhinitis and increase the risk of recurrence of turbinate hypertrophy.
