Introduction
A small amount of fluid in the pericardial cavity may result from physiological or pathological factors, such as infectious diseases and endocrine or metabolic disorders. It may also be caused by conditions such as heart failure or tumors. Adjusting daily lifestyle habits and maintaining appropriate exercise, such as walking or practicing tai chi, can help enhance the body's resistance and immunity, thereby aiding in disease recovery.

CT findings of a small amount of pericardial effusion can be attributed to both physiological and pathological factors, such as infectious diseases and endocrine or metabolic disorders.

I. Physiological Factors

A small amount of pericardial effusion reported on CT may represent a normal physiological phenomenon. The heart is enveloped by two layers—the serous layer and the fibrous layer. The serous layer naturally secretes a small amount of lubricating fluid, which helps reduce friction during cardiac movement. In such cases, no specific treatment or intervention is usually required.

II. Pathological Factors

1. Infectious Diseases

A small pericardial effusion seen on CT may result from disease-related accumulation of fluid within the pericardial cavity. When pericardial diseases or other systemic conditions affect the pericardium, pericardial effusion can develop. These are mainly classified as infectious or non-infectious. Common infectious causes include viral infections such as influenza virus and *Mycobacterium tuberculosis*. Under medical guidance, anti-infective therapy may include medications such as vancomycin tablets or imipenem capsules.

2. Endocrine and Metabolic Disorders

Endocrine and metabolic disorders, such as hypothyroidism, can increase capillary permeability and slow lymphatic return, leading to fluid accumulation in the pericardial cavity, appearing on CT as a small pericardial effusion. Treatment under medical supervision may include levothyroxine (e.g., Euthyrox tablets).

In addition, heart failure, tumors, and other conditions may also cause pericardial effusion. Adjusting lifestyle habits and maintaining moderate exercise, such as walking or practicing tai chi, can help enhance resistance and immunity, supporting recovery from illness.
