Can holding in flatulence cause it to come out as a burp from the mouth?
Holding in farts generally does not result in gas being released through belching from the mouth.
The total length of the human intestinal tract is about 7–10 meters, including 2–3 meters of large intestine and 5–7 meters of small intestine, which winds and coils within the abdominal cavity. Gas that is held back usually has difficulty traveling backward through the intestines and then passing through organs such as the stomach and esophagus to exit via the mouth. If there are food residues, feces, or abundant gastrointestinal digestive fluids present in the intestines, the process of gas moving backward and eventually being expelled through the mouth becomes even more complicated and unlikely. Therefore, such a scenario rarely occurs.
Frequently holding in farts is not recommended, as it may prevent intestinal gas and waste from being properly expelled, adversely affecting gastrointestinal function and leading to reduced digestive efficiency.
