Are multiple lymph nodes in the neck serious?
The severity of multiple cervical lymph nodes is generally related to the underlying cause, such as chronic lymphadenopathy, inflammation, or tumors.
1. Chronic Cervical Lymphadenitis
This condition commonly occurs in younger patients and is typically characterized by small lymph nodes. The symptoms of chronic cervical lymphadenitis become increasingly apparent over time; therefore, early examination and preventive measures are essential.
2. Inflammation
Inflammatory enlargement of multiple lymph nodes on both sides of the neck may result from bacterial infection. Common symptoms include swollen and painful lymph nodes, sometimes with pus formation at the center. Under a doctor's guidance, antibacterial medications such as cefixime capsules or cefradine capsules can be used for treatment, typically lasting 10 to 14 days.
3. Tumors
Multiple enlarged lymph nodes in the neck caused by cancer cell metastasis are more serious. If cancer has spread to the lymph nodes, it usually indicates the disease has progressed to an intermediate or advanced stage. In such cases, prompt medical evaluation is necessary to identify the cause and initiate appropriate treatments, including surgery, radiotherapy, chemotherapy, targeted therapy, or immunotherapy.
Additionally, hematological disorders may also be responsible. Patients should maintain a light diet and avoid spicy or irritating foods.
