What are the harms of sleeping with the light on for the eyes?
Sleeping with the light on can commonly lead to eye problems such as visual fatigue, ciliary muscle spasm, and decreased vision.
1. Visual fatigue
It may affect the secretion of melatonin, resulting in poor sleep quality, which prevents the eyes from getting adequate rest and leads to symptoms of visual fatigue such as dry and irritated eyes.
2. Ciliary muscle spasm
Prolonged exposure to light can continuously stimulate the eyes, preventing the ciliary muscle from fully relaxing and causing spasms.
3. Decreased vision
It may easily disrupt the body's biological rhythms, keeping the eye axis in a continuous state of development, leading to excessive elongation of the eye axis and resulting in myopia (nearsightedness).
In addition, other potential harms such as retinal damage may also occur; therefore, it is generally not recommended to sleep with the light on over a long period.
