When is the best time for women to test CA125?
For women, the CA125 test is most accurate when performed in the morning on an empty stomach, three days after menstruation has completely ended.
CA125, also known as carbohydrate antigen 125, is a commonly used tumor marker. This value may be significantly elevated in cases of ovarian cancer and malignant teratomas. The normal range for CA125 is typically 0–35 kU/L. Markedly elevated levels are commonly associated with gastrointestinal malignancies. In women, significant elevation can also occur due to gynecological inflammation or gynecological tumors.
In addition, avoid consuming overly greasy or high-protein foods the day before the blood draw for CA125 testing, and refrain from heavy alcohol consumption. Alcohol in the bloodstream can directly affect test results. Begin fasting at 8 p.m. the night before the blood test for at least 12 hours to prevent interference with the test results. Stay relaxed during blood collection, as anxiety may cause blood vessel constriction, making blood draw more difficult.
