Introduction
The time it takes to stop using crutches after plate removal depends on factors such as the location of the fracture, the patient's age, and physical condition. Generally, crutches may no longer be needed after 1 to 2 months. After plate removal, it is important to maintain hygiene around the wound to prevent infection. To prevent shoulder joint adhesion and stiffness, appropriate functional exercises for the shoulder joint can also be performed.

How long a patient needs to use crutches after plate removal depends on various factors such as the location of the fracture, age, and physical condition. Generally, crutches may no longer be needed after 1–2 months.

After surgical removal of internal fixation materials, patients can begin walking with crutches 2–3 days post-operation. However, excessive force should be avoided during plate removal to prevent re-fracture. After the fracture has healed and the internal fixation devices have been removed, screw holes remain in the bone. These holes require time to heal. Until they are fully healed, using crutches helps reduce weight-bearing on the operated leg. Continuing to use crutches for 1–2 months allows sufficient time for bone regeneration and helps prevent re-fracture. Younger patients or those in better physical condition typically heal faster, while older patients or those with osteoporosis may need to extend the duration of crutch use. Additionally, care should be taken to avoid re-injury or re-fracture. Although early mobilization is encouraged after plate removal, initial activities should be performed cautiously with protective measures, as the bone strength is not yet fully restored. Full weight-bearing is usually possible after 1–2 months.

After plate removal, maintain proper hygiene around the surgical wound to prevent infection. To prevent shoulder joint adhesion or stiffness, appropriate shoulder joint functional exercises are recommended.
