Symptoms and manifestations of pleurisy: early symptoms
Symptoms of pleurisy mainly include chest pain, difficulty breathing, and warmth or heat in the skin over the chest cavity. The early symptom is usually a sensation of chest pain.
1. Chest Pain
The pleura is a thin layer of tissue between the lungs and the chest wall. When inflammation occurs, it not only causes tissue edema but also repeatedly stimulates the local sympathetic nerve plexus, resulting in significant chest pain. In the initial stage of the disease, the chest pain often presents as stabbing or pulling pain, becoming more pronounced during coughing or vigorous physical activity.
2. Difficulty Breathing
After the pleura develops congestive edema, friction between the chest wall and lungs increases, thereby impairing the normal function of lung and bronchial tissues. As a result, patients frequently experience respiratory symptoms such as chest tightness, shortness of breath, and rapid breathing.
3. Warmth in the Chest Skin
During acute episodes of the disease, heightened local immune activity in the pleural region accelerates vascular metabolism, leading to sensations of warmth or burning in the overlying skin.
In addition to the above symptoms, coughing and sputum production are also common manifestations of pleurisy.
